Gi and no-gi. One membership.
Adult Jiu Jitsu Classes in Norfolk, VA
Brazilian jiu jitsu for teens and adults, training both in the gi and no-gi every week on a single membership. The kimono builds grips and control; no-gi brings submission grappling, wrestling and pace.
01Gi and no-gi
Train one. Train both. Every week.
Find the balance between traditional and modern jiu jitsu, and where they intersect. You can opt to train one or both. The gi will slow down jiu jitsu for you and make it more static, requiring more thought. It is encouraged to do both, or at least keep up with the style. The way the guard is played and connection is maintained differ greatly, and it is always wise to be ready for anything.
A set and tested curriculum designed to make sure you can’t be bad at jiu jitsu.

02What you build
Six things the adult program develops
Classes cater to all levels, progressing from fundamental techniques through advanced drills and sparring — in the gi and without it.
-
01
Fundamentals
Foundational positions, base and posture taught step by step, with the support that makes a first month feel manageable instead of chaotic.
-
02
Gi grips
Sleeve, collar and lapel control — how to take a grip, how to break one, and how to make a grip do work rather than just holding on.
-
03
No-gi and wrestling
Underhooks, head control, takedown entries and scrambles at speed. Without a jacket to hold, timing and body position have to carry the work instead.
-
04
Control
Holding position against someone who does not want you there. Sweeps and submissions follow control; they do not replace it.
-
05
Technical progression
A set curriculum means the syllabus moves forward whether or not you were there last week, and your progress is visible rather than vague.
-
06
Sparring against every size
Over time you master sweeps, submissions and sparring against opponents of all sizes — which is where technique stops being theoretical.
03Inside a session
No time wasted, from the first minute
Class opens with technique instead of a traditional warm-up. With all that extra time, the coaching goes where it actually matters.
Walking in the door
Expect dedicated coaches and a team-driven culture — cordial, warm and welcoming. Clayton takes the safety of his members seriously and will partner you with someone who knows how to bring a new athlete along.
Competition, prepared properly
Clayton travels all over the country with his athletes, testing them at local, regional, national and international level. Competition training is included in the membership rather than sold separately, and there are serious competitors in this room setting the standard everyone else trains against.
Rounds you are ready for
Nobody is talked into rounds they are not ready for, and nobody is held back when they are. As your jiu jitsu comes up, so does the level of the people across from you — that is how the room builds athletes.
People love this place because it’s just about the jiu jitsu, and nothing else.
